The one-time forming process of obtaining finished parts by plastically deforming the plate through a mold is called stamping. Because stamping is usually carried out in a cold state, it is also called cold stamping. Only when the thickness of the sheet exceeds 8~100mm, hot stamping is used. The raw materials for stamping processing are generally plates or strips, so it is also called plate stamping. Certain non-metallic plates (such as bakelite, mica, asbestos, leather, etc.) can also be processed by stamping.
Stamping is widely used in various industries of metal products, especially in automobile, instrumentation, military industry, household appliances and other industries.

Sheet metal stamping has the following characteristics:

(1) High material utilization rate.

(2) Parts with thin walls and complex shapes can be processed.

(3) Stamping parts are interchangeable in shape and size.

(4) Parts with light weight, high strength and good rigidity can be obtained.

(5) High productivity, simple operation, easy to realize mechanization and automation.

Stamping dies are expensive to manufacture and are therefore suitable for mass production. For small batch and multi-variety production, simple dies are often used, and new equipment such as stamping processing centers are introduced to meet market demand.
Metal materials commonly used in sheet metal stamping include low-carbon steel, copper, aluminum, magnesium alloys and high-plasticity alloys. As mentioned earlier, the material shapes are sheet and strip.
Stamping production equipment includes shears and punches. The shearing machine is used to cut the plate into a strip with a certain width for the subsequent stamping process. The punching machine can be used for cutting and forming.
