Correct installation is vital to extending their service life, reducing equipment failures and ensuring stable operation. Adequate preparation lays the foundation for successful installation. First, check the model and specifications of the TIMKEN cylindrical roller bearing to ensure it matches the equipment’s design requirements, including inner diameter, outer diameter, width and precision grade. Parameter mismatch will lead to poor fit and affect performance. Then, thoroughly clean the bearing and related components with kerosene or special cleaning agents to remove rust, grease and debris, which can cause severe wear. Finally, prepare tools like a press, copper sleeve and lubricant; choose lithium-based grease or high-temperature oil to reduce friction.
Common methods include press fitting and hot fitting. Press fitting is suitable for small interference fit: use a press and soft metal sleeve to apply uniform pressure on the interference-fit ring (inner ring for shaft, outer ring for bearing seat), avoiding force on rolling elements. Hot fitting is for large interference fit: heat the bearing to 80-90℃ (not over 100℃) in a suspended oil bath for uniform heating, then install quickly and let it cool naturally, never using cold water to avoid thermal stress.
During installation, avoid direct hammering on the bearing to prevent damage. Ensure the bearing is installed vertically without tilting. Operators should wear gloves to avoid hand sweat causing rust. For separable bearings, install inner and outer rings separately and align them properly to avoid raceway scratches.
After installation, manually rotate the bearing to check for smooth operation without jamming. Use a feeler gauge to test radial clearance and ensure it meets standards. Run the equipment at low speed to check for abnormal noise or overheating. Proper inspection ensures the bearing works normally and extends its service life.
